Laboratório sense&motion - pain and motion research lab

The sense&motion laboratory is aligned with the commitment to develop patient-oriented research by developing innovative solutions to predict pathology and treatment, which result in decreased disability and improved health status and quality of life.

The main area of study in the laboratory is the central processing of pain associated with musculoskeletal and rheumatic diseases. For this the laboratory uses innovative approaches in the integrated study of sensory, psychosocial and motor factors as the main drivers of the pain experience.

Advanced Vocal Function Laboratory (AVFL)

The AVFL's mission is to research and deepen knowledge in the area of spoken and sung voice. This mission is aligned with those of the IPS and ESS, advocating the scientific, technological and cultural development of the region of Setúbal and surrounding community.

The research is underpinned by three dimensions: voice production, perception and modulation, and related areas, developed in two temporal axes: ontogenetic and phylogenetic evolution. The research findings aim to support the scientific community, especially professionals related to the voice area, and the public in general. Various products are patented annually, and scientific articles are published in international journals.

Pedadogical Clinic of Speech and Language Therapy

The Pedagogical Clinic of Speech and Language Therapy has tools for the assessment of the communication, language and speech skills. These tools/ resources are commonly applied in studies in the area of language and cognition, learning and natural development, communication needs and human communication in general, typical and atypical, from childhood to adulthood.

It has computer equipment (specialized hardware and software) suitable for the performance of different types of psycholinguistic and/ or cognitive experience, allowing the automatic recording of participants' responses and reaction times, when confronted with specific stimuli, presented visually and/ or hearing. The space also allows for interviews, evaluations and interventions in the Speech Therapy field.
