The energy audit is an opportunity for companies to evaluate and reduce their energy consumption, improving their competitiveness. By the implementation of measurements and the application of thermodynamic formulations in order to characterize the energy and mass balances, we can evaluate the energy performance of industrial systems.
In this project, named "Audit Furnace" and directed to the evaluation of industrial furnaces, we intend to further strengthen the technical and scientific approach to energy audits through research and development of a physical-mathematical model of intelligent simulation. The reduced order model, incorporated into a computer tool accessible via the web will allow a rapid analysis of combustion processes, fluid mechanics and heat transfer, as well as the analysis of the impact of one or more measures to improve the energy efficiency.
In order to create a sufficiently large tool with high degree of accuracy, the model is tuned to adapt to different furnaces geometries and to the physical modeling of different processes using the real data measurements and detailed CFD simulations for the selected cases. By using learning mathematical models, the model will be validated with the results deviations modeling and relevant parameters adjustment.
The consortium of this project brings together the multidisciplinary expertise from research teams with excelent skills on energy efficiency, physics and informatics areas. Starting from a deep knowledge of the project's focus area and thanks to the complementary skills who seek to combine, it is intended to solve several technical and scientific challenges aiming the economic recovery results in an intensive knowledge activity.
