Edel Bartolo Garcia Reyes

Biography

Edel García started his work activity in March/1987 as a specialist in automation supporting the main computer at the Cuban Institute of Geodesy and Cartography (ICGC). Later, He started working at the Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing Research Center as an aspiring researcher. He has received more than 40 postgraduate courses and has reached the highest category of researcher in Cuba. He has developed as a specialist in remote sensing and pattern recognition. He participated in the founding of the Advanced Technology Applications Center (CENATAV), in 2003, where he dedicated to conduct basic and applied research on pattern recognition, video analysis, and biometrics. He has combined scientific research with the teaching of postgraduate, master and doctoral courses at the university. Edel García has a deep experience (36-years period) as a researcher and professor in the area of computer sciences. He participated as a researcher in more than 45 scientific and technological research collaboration projects (nationals and internationals); 25 in a role of principal investigator. He was in charge of selecting and supervising the teams of researchers / collaborators. He has been very active in the promotion of national and international academic and industrial collaboration. He has published 104 scientific articles: 13 papers in peer review journals with impact factor, 2 books, 35 book chapters and 45 papers in cutting-edge conference proceedings. Participated in 67 scientific conferences. He supervised 27 students: 11 Doctoral (graduated) and 4 Masters of Sciences (graduated). He is a member of the following scientific associations: IAPR - International Association for Pattern Recognition, SCMC - Cuban Pattern Recognition Association. He is member of Academy of Sciences of Cuba from 2012.
