Biography
S. Piçarra holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering with a focus on the application of Fluorescence Techniques to the study of Polymers. Her track record includes 4 patents, 4 book chapters, 30 peer-reviewed papers published in Q1 indexed journals (h-index of 13, WoS) and 12 peer-reviewed papers published in conferences. Additionally, she has almost 60 presentations at international conferences, some as an invited speaker. Her areas of expertise encompass the synthesis and characterization of tailored polymers, as well as the development of polymeric/hybrid nanoparticles for specific applications. Her main scientific interests lay in (i) stone conservation for heritage purposes, (ii) development of tailored coatings for particular applications and (iii) nano and microplastics detection and behavior in waters.
S. Piçarra is supervising her second PhD student. Furthermore, she has actively contributed to several national and international projects as researcher, assuming the roles of Institutional Coordinator and International Work-package Leader in two European projects. In the period from 2018 to 2022, she served as the IPS Vice-President with a sphere of responsibility in Research and Development (R&D), simultaneously holding the position of R&D Office Coordinator.
