Biography

Rui obtained his PhD in Computer Science in 2017 from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL), his MSc in Computer Science and Informatics in 2008 also from FCT-UNL and his BSc in Electrical Engineering in 1998 from the same University.

He is Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, School of Technology of Setúbal (ESTSetúbal-IPS), Integrated Researcher at NOVA-LINCS (Group: Multimodal Systems) and Collaborating Researcher at the Telecommunications Institute of Lisboa. 

He was the Head of Centre of SustainRD - Research Center for Engineering a Sustainable Development at ESTSetúbal-IPS between 2019 and 2023. He is also a member of the Technical-Scientific Council of ESTSetúbal-IPS. 

He has published 10 articles in specialised journals and he has 5 book chapters. 

Organised 2 events. Supervised 1 doctoral thesis and he is supervising 3 other doctoral thesis and co-supervising one more. Advisor of more than 12 master's dissertation(s) and co-supervised 3. Supervised more than 40 bachelor's degree course final projects. Received 1 award regarding the best paper in a top-tier conference. Participates and/or has participated as a Doctoral Fellow in 2 project(s), Co-Investigator-in-charge (Co-IR) in 3 project(s), Technical Development in 2 project(s), Researcher in 7 project(s) and Researcher-in-charge in 3 project(s). 

He works in the areas of Engineering Sciences and Technologies with an emphasis on Other Engineering Sciences and Technologies, Exact Sciences with an emphasis on Computer and Information Sciences and Social Sciences with an emphasis on Educational Sciences.
